Information

The role of laboratory wear

The lab coat is worn outside the self-service personal protective equipment (PPE), generally long-sleeved, coat length to the knee and below, buttons from bottom to top to the neck, can protect laboratory staff from chemical, biological, and physical, and other aspects of harm, such as

- Chemical hazards: corrosive fluids, carcinogens, etc.

- Biological hazards: blood, body fluids, pathogens, etc.

- Physical hazards: lasers, radiation, flammable materials, etc.

Four kinds of common laboratory clothing

1. Traditional lab coat (white coat)

The white lab coat is the most common laboratory coat, usually made of cotton or cotton-polyester blend, both lightweight and breathable, cotton material of the laboratory coat flame retardant performance is better than the cotton-polyester blend, but both flame retardants are relatively poor.

2. Laboratory protective clothing

Laboratory protective clothing made of polyester, with knitted cuffs to prevent skin contact with infectious substances and blood-borne pathogens.

3. Flame-retardant lab coat

A flame-retardant lab coat is usually made of flame-retardant cotton or flame-retardant fibers and is suitable for experimental environments that come into contact with flammable materials. After the flame retardant treatment of cotton lab coat on fire, leaving the fire source automatically extinguished, can resist the medium risk of fire, but not for the environment with spontaneous combustion materials. Synthetic fibers made of flame retardant lab coat are strong and durable, the fibers will become larger when heated to increase the distance between the flame and the skin, weakening the heat transfer, and can effectively protect the human body from flammable and spontaneous combustion materials.

4. Disposable lab coat

The disposable lab coat is usually made of polypropylene, polyethylene or SMS, and other materials, commonly used in nuclear power plants, pharmaceutical or industrial environments, can protect staff from solid substances and light splashes, but should not be worn for more than eight hours. Specific reference is made to the following summary table of the characteristics of our health disposable lab coat.

How to choose the right lab coat?

Before choosing a lab coat, you should first ensure that the chemicals in the laboratory are stored properly, fume hoods, splash guards, glove boxes and other safety and protection equipment are complete, and then choose a lab coat from the following four aspects.

- Protection: According to the hazards involved in the experiment, choose the appropriate material for the lab coat.

- Comfort: Comfort is also a crucial selection factor. For example, cotton lab coats are lightweight and breathable, so if there are no flammable or spontaneously combustible materials in the work environment, you can choose such lab coats.

- Fit: A well-fitting lab coat should have the following three conditions: knee-length or over-the-knee; sleeves covering the entire arm; and the highest button position at the neck. If the lab coat is too large, the cuffs may enter harmful substances, and there is a risk of tripping if the lab coat is too long; while a lab coat that is too small will lead to inconvenience in movement.

- Durable: Cheaper lab coats are more likely to tear and damage, so you should try to choose higher-priced, more durable lab coats.

Under the premise of meeting the above requirements, the shape of the sleeves, the location and number of pockets, and the straight-through holes (which can be more easily reached into the lab coat, etc. can also be used as reference conditions for lab coat selection.

To help you make your selection, we highlight the characteristics of the following 3 types of disposable lab coats.

It is worth noting that SF material is added in the membrane production process, and the nanopowder is separated from the membrane after film formation to form micro-pores; then the membrane is compounded with hot melt adhesive and spun bond cloth to increase the strength. SF as a new protective material can effectively isolate various bacteria, anti-alcohol, and anti-blood penetration, its hydrostatic pressure reaches more than 130CMH2O; good moisture permeability, superior anti-static effect, good comfort, and is the most widely It is the most widely used protective product, commonly used in protective clothing, surgical gowns, isolation clothing, work clothes, etc.

Precautions for using lab coats

1. lab coats should be worn in the laboratory and buttoned up.

2. the lab coat should be taken off immediately when it catches fire

3. a chemical-resistant rubber apron should be worn when handling corrosive substances

4. disposable lab coats should be worn when handling extremely hazardous materials

5. severely contaminated lab coats and clothing are hazardous waste and should be disposed of separately and properly.

6. do not wear lab coats outside the laboratory to prevent cross-contamination.

7. disposable lab coats should not be worn for more than eight hours, and soiled lab coats should be replaced on time.

8. do not roll up the sleeves of the lab coat.

9. flame-retardant lab coat can be washed with general detergent, but do not use bleach
