Donning surgical gown

After completing a surgical hand scrub, you will go over to grab your towel without touching anything that needs to remain sterile. You will use half the towel to dry one hand fingertips, wrist and forearm, and the other half to dry the other hand, wrist and forearm. Being sure not to touch your surgical attire. You will throw the towel away and then grab your gown without touching your gloves.

Standard surgical gowns are folded into easy-to-wear way that the surgeon can easily put on without touching anything else. Need slide your hands in like below person in the picture.

Find a safe place to unfurl your gown and keep your hands inside the sleeves of the gown, ask an amazing colleague to tie you in.

When performing the closed gloving technique, it’s easiest if you flip your indicator glove pack upside down, remember to keep your hand and your sleeve as you flip the glove over, you’re going to work your hand slowly out of the sleeve into the glove, this is a test that is difficult for most new people and does take time to master, gloving your dominant hand is preferred, and then your non dominant hand second, next you will put on your top glove, you may use the open glove technique which you may be more comfortable or familiar with, be sure not to touch your gown to anything unsterile.

Next you will hand over your tie card to a colleague, spin and do the final tie in, you are now a sterile field.

Doffing surgical gown

When doffing the surgical attire, you will remove your top pair of gloves, most likely these are contaminated from the case.

The next thing you’ll do, is either break or untie your hip tie. Next you’ll undo the neck velcro , and then break the back waist tie, being sure not to touch your skin or surgical scrubs.

Pull your gown down,folding inside out, pull the sleeve off your arms continuously rolling inside out, ball your gown up and discards in the trash.

Removing your gloves, you’ll do glove to glove and then skin to skin, discarding in the trash, and last thing you’ll do is washing your hands.
